Are photographers plug-in artists?

The modern photographer is more of a plug-in artist than a painter or writer with light (from “photo” and “graphis”). They create art of which expert art buyers call out “Photoshopped!” in disdain. And in many cases rightly so. What is the art of throwing your dSLR in the air and shooting light streaks? And is there anyone who can point out to me what is creative about dragging a couple of sliders in a Photoshop plug-in?
